Before you say it - yes, I know that magnet schools do not allow half days for seniors, but Liberty should. The school has a very unique campus that imitates a college campus. This style puts a lot of trust in the students and allows them to have a taste of the freedom high school graduates feel in college. If the school is willing to put trust in students with such a campus and layout, they should allow them to have the opportunity to choose to have a half day as a senior.

Many students already have most of their credits to graduate after working hard their whole high school career. For example, I only need 3 credits, an English, Science, and History to graduate, but I am required to fill my schedule. Because of this I am more stressed and am taking classes that are unnecessary. This can be very frustrating for Seniors who have put a lot of effort in past years to be getting as many credits as possible and are now ahead of the game.

With Liberty Magnet High being one of the better schools in the area, many people flock to this school for opportunity and a better environment than other schools rather than because of its magnet status. So, many who attend Liberty do not care whether they graduate with the Magnet status or not. In theory, I think students should be able to choose to opt out of graduating with magnet status if that gives them the option to only attend half days.

Additionally, many seniors are getting more financial responsibilities from their parents and even saving to move out. They should have the option to only take their required courses to graduate so they are able to pick up more hours at their jobs and work towards taking on more adult responsibilities. These are just some of the reasons why Liberty should allow students to opt for half days.
