Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
• 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
• 1 cup (2 sticks / 226g) unsalted butter, softened
• ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
• ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix-ins:
• 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips
• Optional: 1 cup (120g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Preparation
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
6. Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
7. Scoop the dough into 1 ½-inch balls (about 2 tablespoons) and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly soft.
9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
